About Me

Hi! Welcome to the HOOPLA!

My name is Amanda.  I'm a creating, collaborating, book loving, coffee drinking, student centered, always learning teacher in San Antonio, Texas.

I'm a hands-on, get up and move, think deeply kind of teacher. I love having my students work collaboratively, but I also value the importance of independent thinking. I'm always up for tackling a new challenge and try to inspire my students to do the same. I believe mistakes are proof of learning (including teacher mistakes) and always try to infuse fun, laughter, and creativity into every lesson I teach.

I am passionate about my classroom, my students, children’s literature, and organization. I hope to inspire my students to treasure a good book, write stories from the heart, observe the wonder of the world, explore the possibilities of numbers, and become a leader both inside and outside of my classroom.

Over the yeas, I have taught 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade. Each year I've learned, grown, and changed as a teacher. This year is filled with even more change and exciting opportunities. After ten years of being self-contained, I am departmentalized this year and teaching 5th grade ELA. I am also going back to school to earn my MLS degree from Texas Woman's University. You will likely see some of my assignments on my blog throughout the program.

Thank you for stopping by and taking a moment to learn a little bit more about me!
