About Me

Hi! Welcome to the HOOPLA!

My name is Amanda.  I'm a creating, collaborating, book loving, coffee drinking, student centered, always learning teacher in Texas.

I'm a hands-on, get up and move, think deeply kind of teacher. I love having my students work collaboratively, but I also value the importance of independent thinking. I'm always up for tackling a new challenge and try to inspire my students to do the same. I believe mistakes are proof of learning (including teacher mistakes) and always try to infuse fun, laughter, and creativity into every lesson I teach.

I am passionate about my classroom, my students, children’s literature, and organization. I hope to inspire my students to treasure a good book, write stories from the heart, observe the wonder of the world, explore the possibilities of numbers, and become a leader both inside and outside of my classroom.

I've been a bit of chameleon in my career, changing grade levels frequently and even changing states. I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th and looped with kids three times. I've learned so much each year and continue to grow and change as a teacher with each new experience and class. After ten years of being self-contained, this year I will be departmentalized, teaching 5th grade ELA. I currently live in San Antonio, Texas with my husband and my fun-loving corgi, Lucy.

Thank you for stopping by and taking a moment to learn a little bit more about me!
